"West Boca" Man Arrested Again: Assault With Deadly Weapon

justin-rogulski-deadly-weapon
Justin Rogulski (above, 23) was arrested Tuesday by Boca Raton city police on three serious charges including grand theft of a firearm, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (the gun) and smuggling contraband into a detention facility.
His reported address for this incident is in the BelAire apartments southeast of the corner of SW 3rd and 441. We see two other arrests this year for him by Boca PD, one of which also lists him as from the 33428 zip code (but with no specific address) and another putting him in apartments in Delray Beach.
The Sun-Sentinel reported on this arrest, saying that it involved a fight between Rogulski and his roommate at an apartment in Boca Bend off Dixie Highway. Despite those facts, the Sheriff listed Rogulski at a West Boca address.
Rogulski has a substantial history in the Palm Beach courts. This year he had another incident with Boca PD that was covered by our friends at Boca News Now. He was adjudicated guilty on all three counts from that incident, including what looks like a felony for driving with a suspended license, and was sentenced to three days in jail.
In 2013 he was arrested for burglarizing a car. That was resolved with a plea to loitering, no jail time and a few hundred dollars in fines.
In 2012 he had an indecent exposure case in Miami-Dade. In 2011 he was found guilty in Palm Beach County of indecent exposure. In late 2010 he had multiple drug felony counts and got six months in jail. In early 2010 he had two battery counts that led to a revocation of probation.
He’s also had a few traffic tickets including multiple cases of driving with a suspended license.
Rogulski remains in custody at this writing, pending $16,000 bond. His next court date is set for November 6th.

West Boca Runs Up Score on Olympic Heights: 80-3

This article was written by one of our new interns.
taking-field
In a rivalry that has totally been one sided since the school was built in 2004, the West Boca Bulls once again were victorious last night against the Olympic Heights Lions.
You could literally call this game “The Run of the Bulls,” because that’s what happened. This game was competitive for maybe the first half of the first quarter. West Boca edged out to an early lead on the opening drive and never gave it up. It included a circus-like one handed grab from Sophomore Wide Receiver Shavon Taylor and was later capped off by a bumblin’, grumblin’ 19 yard touchdown run by Junior Running Back Jerrod Ferguson.
A few possessions later Olympic Heights would score their only points of the game, a 50 yard Field Goal, which would have been good from 53-54 yards, by Senior Kicker Khalid Iqab. He’s a bright spot for the Lions. Khalid is quoted to have said “I’m just playing on the football team to kill time before Soccer season starts”. If he kicks 50 yard Field Goals more often he may be scouted to kick on the college level.
The offensive line for the Bulls proved quite fruitful for them. They had key blocks which opened up great holes for Shavon to run through.

On the other hand the offensive line and offense in general wasn’t as fruitful for the Lions. They didn’t make enough blocks to have their running game be successful. However on the Special Teams for the Lions their Senior Returner/Wide Receiver Josh McMann was quite the spark. He led them a couple of times into stupendous field position but the offense squandered the opportunities he provided.
It just didn’t look like Olympic Heights came out serious enough to play this game. In fairness to them though they’ve had their head coach who was hired in March, leave the team two weeks before Fall practice started and their current head coach was hired a week before Fall practice started. Hopefully they’ll be able to turn it around with the new coach, who has a winning background.

Editor’s Note: I asked our new intern if West Boca pulled their starters after the game got out of hand. He said they did not.

Closed – Another New French Restaurant: Fabien's Bistro

Update: Fabien’s has closed. There is a new restaurant in its place, Jasper’s, but we haven’t been there yet.
We discovered a second new French restaurant. The first is La Ferme, which we’ve covered extensively and is located near the northwest corner of West Boca (Yamato near 441). On the opposite corner of the rectangle, near the southeast corner on SW 18th just west of Military Trail, is Fabien’s Bistro. It’s in the plaza with Howard’s Market and Rise Asian Sushi.

You can see it in this warped panorama shot of the plaza – it’s near the left side. Howard’s Market is to the right. We found it easiest to access the plaza by turning into Palm D’Oro Road and then turning into the plaza. Parking was limited but that may be better at dinnertime.

We haven’t had a chance to eat there yet. We were there at lunch time and they’re only open for dinner starting at 5 pm (Tuesday – Sunday, closed Monday during low season). As we were looking at the menu, Fabien came out and invited us to take a look around.

As one might expect with a French restaurant, the a la carte menu is not cheap with entrees starting around $27. But for now they have an early bird special dinner for $22.95 from 5-6 pm that includes soup or salad, an entree (limited to four choices) and dessert. If you’re there after 6 pm and it’s not crowded, mention West Boca News and ask Fabien for the early bird dinner. And keep in mind that restaurant menus change, especially new ones.

We hope to get out to Fabien’s in the next month or so to give it a try, and we’ll do a full review. If you’ve been there and tried it, please post a comment and let our readers know what you thought.

In addition:

The teachers [Sharon Dix-Stark and Kelly Brown] started a non-profit business, Pawsability, to teach the kids job skills and to raise money for the classes. They hope that Pawsability will become big enough to give students paying jobs. They are looking for a store or stores that would be generous enough to put their dog treats in their stores. They can only get so far by word of mouth & flyers.

Sunrise, Moon, Clouds and Palm Trees

This morning we saw both the moon and the sunrise at the same time and it made for some nice photos. First up is our unusual panorama shot, going not from left to right but from west to east, going over the top. The moon is visible, though only a small dot, on the left side of the image (west).
