Family excursion today to the IMAX theater at MODS. We saw The Last Reef and To The Arctic, two 40-minute documentaries with beautiful camera work and overly politicized depressing narration.
Afterward we had a delightful dinner at La Bonne Crepe about 10 blocks to the east.

The kidlets started with hot chocolate. They loved it.

I started with a French Onion soup. It was good. The cheese and onions were both excellent. The broth was pretty good but not outstanding.

Three of us had dinner crepes and I had meatloaf. All the portions were huge and everyone liked their dishes.

However, we didn’t eat that much of them for two reasons. First, while good they were not spectacular. But the second reason was more compelling – we were saving room for …

Both crepes had vanilla ice cream. One was drizzled in chocolate sauce, the other had banana slices. The portions were again quite large including heaping masses of ice cream.
Prices were reasonable, especially considering the prime location. I had a $20 set including the soup, an entree, and the fresh fruit. Dinner crepes ranged from about $14 to $22. Dessert crepes were mostly under $10 and sized to be shared.
The Las Olas strip has high end art galleries. We stopped in a few. The Oggi Murano (also in Boca) has stunning pieces of blown glass.

Another new place in Loggers Run, Marcus’s Kosher Chinese opened about two months ago.
We hope to do a full review next week.

We heard about Lime Fresh Mexican Grill from a friend. It’s in a great location in the Promenade at Coconut Creek.

Similar to Tijuana Flats and some other fast casual places, you order as you enter and someone brings your food to you. Video at the bottom of the post.

Menu choices include a variety of tacos, burritos, a fajita option and more.
Before sitting it is wise to get some condiments from the salsa bar.

Tijuana Flats has more flavors but I liked Lime Fresh’s choices better – with cilantro, pico de gallo, and a bean/corn medley.
On the whole though the meal was not great. The “classic” guacamole was bland (though my better half seemed to like it). There are three other guac choices.

She ordered the 3 taco deal and liked it.

I had the naked burrito with steak. The flavor was good but I was surprised how little steak it came with.

It came in a very large dish but most of the space was chips, rice and beans. I had to dig to look for the steak and didn’t find much.
Since I’ve heard good things and my wife liked it, I’m hesitant to knock them too hard. We will have to try it again, but with different guac and maybe the fajitas.

We may have lost the best ice cream places in Boca, but there is a Cold Stone Creamery at the Promenade – Coconut Creek.

And for a bonus, they also have the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, with a few shelves of seductive chocolates.

Inside it looks about the same – delicious.

Sadly today we did not have a chance to sample the options but we will return in force. And we’ve always liked Cold Stone.

Frequently near Yokohama Sushi in West Boca, we finally had the chance to eat here. They have a broad menu, including some deals. There are also items you have to order in advance, like the Gangster Chicken.
The menu makes it a good place for an izakaya approach (sharing a variety of dishes) if you have 4-8 adults.
We started with miso soup – they have three kinds. We tried regular and with dumplings. Both are delicious. Best miso soup we’ve had in South Florida.

We also had edamame which was fine.

I also received a bonus cucumber salad that apparently comes with my sushi order. It had a nice spicy kick, and bits of tuna.

In a sampling mood, we also got the combination yakitori and and order of fried gyoza. The yakitori had great flavor though the beef was a little too chewy for me. Gyoza were fine.

The sushi-sashimi combo was good and a reasonable bargain on the half-price menu – $14. Six pieces of sushi and six more sashimi. The tuna was particularly good.

We ordered too much food. The vegetable fried rice was very large with a deep almost dark taste. Chicken teriyaki was very good but we only had a couple bites because we were stuffed.

The interior was pleasant, and small. There are 7 tables and about 10 seats at the sushi bar. Some peppy electronic music played in the background. I didn’t love that but it wasn’t bad either. Not the cheapest but prices are reasonable and the food is quite good. Our waitress was very attentive.
