Review: Padano Bistro in Loggers' Run

There’s a new Italian restaurant in the Loggers’ Run plaza. It’s in the same location as the old Mama’s, but the interior and menu are new and different.
On the inside we noticed upgraded materials throughout. It looks nicer and feels roomier even though it’s the same space.

This is of course a restaurant so the food’s the thing. It’s good. We won’t go so far as to say great, but it’s better than the last two operations in the space.
The soups were the best part of our meal. They come out with covers and they’re so hot you can’t really eat them for a minute so you have to wait while you smell them.

Pricing is a potential issue. The soups are $7 which seems like a lot. But you get a lot – we ate about half of our soups and took the rest home. Unlike many other places there’s no deal where you get a cup of soup with the entree for a lower price. Also they did not serve bread with the meal. It costs extra.
On the entree side the pasta dishes we ordered were in the ballpark of $13, which is reasonable. The dishes were not exactly what we expected, both in the way they looked and the taste. But they were still good enough and we certainly ate our fill. You’ll have to try it yourself to see if you like the way they cook them. As with the soups the entrees came with ample portion sizes.

We did not try the more expensive entrees or the pizza. A friend who knows pizza ate here before we did and said the pizza is excellent though he thought the ones with toppings were a bit pricey.
Padano is definitely worth a try, especially if you live in the Loggers’ Run area. They’re still a work in progress. The website doesn’t reflect that they’re open yet and we can’t find a menu online.

Crime Victim Details Emerge

Yesterday on our Facebook page we posted about a pizza delivery guy robbed in the Timberwalk section of Loggers’ Run. The victim, Brandon Ramineh, responded to the post with details:

Pulled up to a delivery (which was obviously fake) and noticed a guy walking away from my car on the phone. I thought nothing of it. Got out of my car and as I turned to get the pizza out of my trunk I notice two African American guys walking up behind me in hoodies. Couldn’t do anything. Grabbed me by my neck, pushed me into the ground with a gun jammed into my back. The other guy reached into my pockets and stole my phone, wallet, keys and all my cash from work. They hopped in my car and floored it off (in manual mode in 1st gear like morons).

I heard they found the car at like 3AM a few miles away, but no one has contacted me yet.

To his credit, Mr. Ramineh seems to have recovered well from the incident and is in good spirits as best we can tell.
We contacted PBSO to see what they could tell us but they have not responded.
Update: PBSO did respond.

On Monday, June 6, 2016, at 11 pm, the victim was delivering pizza for Papa John’s to the 22000 block of Timberly Drive, Boca Raton. The victim parked his vehicle at the bottom of the driveway when he was approached by a black male from behind and placed into a choke hold and told not to move and lay face down. The black male suspect removed his keys from his pocket and three black males, all wearing hoodies, entered the vehicle and fled.

In a more serious incident, Jacob Cerney Walsh of Jupiter was shot and killed last night in an “apparent drug deal” in the San Marco community on Military Trail north of Yamato. Walsh was 25 years old.
Boca PD reports:

On Tuesday, June 7 at 12:17 a.m., Boca Raton Police officers responded to a report of a male who was shot at the San Marco Apartments, 5507 North Military Trail. Arriving officers located the shooting victim, Jacob Walsh, and provided medical attention until Boca Raton Fire Rescue personnel arrived and transported Walsh to Delray Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Boca Raton detectives interviewed numerous witnesses, including people who live in the apartment complex.
There is evidence to indicate that Walsh was involved in a drug transaction when he was shot. The investigation is on-going and if anyone has information about this crime, please call Detective Lazarus Kimsal at (561) 620-6144 or Palm Beach County Crime Stoppers at (800) 458-TIPS.

Mr. Walsh had an extensive history in the Palm Beach court system, mostly traffic offenses but also including three felony arrests. The most recent felony case was still open from Palm Beach Gardens with counts for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and carrying a concealed firearm.

West Boca's Newest Superpuppy: Chloe the Powerfluff

AKid is an undercover student and superhero in a West Boca school. No, it’s not Ben.

Currently in West Boca, danger has been raining down hard, and this tiny puppy has been saving the day without anyone noticing. In fact, Michael Rance’s sunset was not even ruined during the Trump campaign event, thanks to … of course, Chloe the Powerfluff! She’s only ten weeks old, and seems unstoppable.

What does Charlotte the Wonder Puppy have to say about this? “RrrrUFF ruff!” When translated to English this means, “Great to have a helping hand!” According to one reader, Charlotte was seen working with Chloe when they brought a runaway dog back to its home. This happened just yesterday behind Wendy’s in Loggers’ Run! Sadly, the duo worked together so quickly, no high quality pictures were able to be taken. We could not confirm whether a few discarded burgers were also rescued.

Charlotte and Chloe are sure to be saving the day together more often, since their teamwork is stunning. Their owners are grateful to have such heroic puppies. More West Barking News coming soon!
