This afternoon we were alerted to an accident on 441 south of Kimberly Blvd, with indications that a car had hit a pole and the pole was on the roof of the car.
We were able to get to the scene for photos and video. At top is a wide angle view of the scene looking toward the south at northbound traffic. The car apparently hit one of the light poles on the northbound side of the road, well off the roadway. Below is a somewhat closer look at the area.
The Palm Beach Sheriff and FPL were both on scene. Fire Rescue had already left.

There was substantial damage to the car, including both the front end and the roof.

The pole was dislodged from its base and you can see it laying on the ground below.

Our video from the scene is below. We did not hear any report of injuries one way or another.

On Sunday several readers reported an incident to us in the Country Landings I subdivision of Logger’s Run. We were told there were vehicles from Fire Rescue, PBSO, and two people were taken from a house at Country Sound Court by ambulance. We also heard that a house on Sutters Lane was blocked off by crime scene tape for several hours. The house at Country Sound Court was also taped off.

We contacted PBSO. Initially they told us it was a Broward Sheriff’s Office case and they were only assisting. When we contacted BSO they told us it was a PBSO case. Yesterday we got a more complete answer from PBSO:

On Sunday, June 28, 2015, just before 6 pm, deputies responded to the 11000 block of Country Sound Court, Logger’s Run, in reference to two individuals being stabbed. The complainant/victim told the 911 call-taker that they were stabbed during a fight that occurred in Deerfield Beach. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that both individuals had been stabbed. Both were transported to Delray Community Medical Center via PBC Fire Rescue personnel.
Broward County Sheriff’s Office detectives responded to investigate only to learn from one of the victim’s that the two were stabbed in Boca Raton. VCD/Homicide was contacted at 8:30 pm to adopt the investigation. Deputies learned that crime scene actually occurred in the 21000 block of Sutters Lane, Boca Raton. One victim was interviewed and it was learned that both were stabbed after he and the other victim stopped at the location to settle a debt with one of the residents. This case is active and open.

We see one previous arrest from the Sutters Lane address, a drug case last year. That case is still pending (most recently he was rejected from drug court) and the individual may also have a misdemeanor battery charge from last year that did not involve an arrest and appears to be getting resolved with a diversion program. We’re not sure that’s the same person because the year in the birth date is different, though all the other identifying information appears the same and he has the same attorney.
The property is owned by a couple who bought the place in 2001 and appear to live there.
The victims have not been identified and it does not appear that any arrest has been made yet.

Shooting at Tricky Dick's?

About a week ago two readers said they heard there was a shooting at “Tricky Dick’s” in the Sandalfoot Square plaza. We didn’t have any verification initially so we didn’t report it.
We were able to get an answer from the Sheriff’s office:

On June 19, 2015, at 1:20 am, a patron inside of the bar was attacked by two unknown males. Several other patrons intervened and a fight carried over into the parking lot where the unknown males fled in a dark colored sedan.
About ten minutes later the two males returned and fired multiple gunshots at the business. A single projectile penetrated a business window and struck a female in the right ankle.
She was subsequently transported to West Boca Hospital by PBC FR (Palm Beach County Fire Rescue) to West Boca Hospital to be treated for her injury. A parked vehicle also suffered damage to its rear window. This case remains open.

A couple of things to note here. First, we’re not sure but we think the bar’s name may have changed from Tricky Dick’s to O’Connor’s Irish Pub. That’s what shows up on Google Maps for the address in question.
Second, the fact that the victim was transported to West Boca Medical Center rather than the Delray Trauma Center indicates the injury was not life threatening.
We will update this story if we get further information.

The Palm Beach Sheriff released some details from the bicycle-SUV collision at the corner of SW 18th and Lyons. According to their report, the bicycle was traveling in the crosswalk from the northeast corner to the northwest corner (right to left in the picture above) when it was struck by a 2009 Chevy Equinox, indicating an address in the Kings Point community in Delray Beach. That vehicle drove off but was found a short distance away, unoccupied.

The bicyclist, Beth Jamine (44), was initially reported in critical condition. That has apparently been upgraded to serious. It is our understanding that Ms. Jamine suffered from some fractures, a pneumothorax, and may need surgery, but she is likely to recover well.

Ms. Jamine’s reported address is in the Isle of Boca Dunes on the west side of Lyons Road at SW 8th, not far from the accident scene.

PBSO indicated the driver is unknown. The address they attribute to the vehicle is owned, according to property appraiser records, by Richard and Harriete Birnbaum. That record shows a Brooklyn mailing address for them.
If any readers have leads on the driver please let us know or contact PBSO Investigator Sean Ramsey.
