Thanks to reader Liz Ruotolo for the tip and photos from an accident this morning at Glades and Powerline.
The accident occurred before 9:30 am. We have not seen any further information from police or fire rescue personnel.
At least one person was taken by stretcher to an ambulance.
Please note that assistance was provided by the Boca Raton Fire Rescue personnel. Most of our stories involve Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, but this incident occurred at the city line. Northwest of the intersection is Boca West which is outside the city limits.
Road Work on Glades Continues
We have seen a noticeable increase in traffic delays on Glades Road due to lane closures. FDOT’s latest description shows the work has intensified:
Restrictions: One lane will be closed, daily, westbound, 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., with one lane closed, eastbound, 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday through summer 2014. One lane will be closed, nightly, westbound, 6:30 p.m. until 7 a.m., with one lane closed, eastbound, 4:30 p.m. until 8:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday through summer 2014.
In recent days we posted pictures on our Facebook page of lane closures at the Lyons Road intersection. At least one reader also warned about substantial delays, saying: “Avoid Glades and Lyons.”
The latest closures are a bigger problem because they’re closing the middle lane, which is more awkward for drivers. Earlier in the project they stuck to the far right lane or the far left.
FDOT’s description of the project is:
Glades Road (CR 808) from State Road 7 to Lyons Road
Construction on this 1.5-mile project began Tuesday, January 7, 2014, in Boca Raton. Work consists of repaving the roadway, signalization upgrades, mast arm installation, curb, sidewalk, and guardrail upgrades, and sign, landscape and irrigation improvements. The project costs an estimated $2.4 million. The work is being performed by Weekley Asphalt Paving, Inc. and is expected to be completed fall 2014.
We note that while the description says “to Lyons Road”, we have seen work also on the east side of that intersection.
For more info see our previous article on the project.
Accident at Lyons & Clint Moore
Update: A new accident reported shortly before 2 pm at Lyons and Glades, this time involving a pedestrian.
Pedestrian accidents are usually more serious and this one has four patients being transported to the hospital.
Yet another accident at Lyons and Clint Moore. We saw this at around 1:15 pm, and these are our photos.
This is as the police were arriving on the scene. The damaged vehicle is near the southwest corner of the intersection.
Here is a panorama shot looking west, with the first vehicle on the left and more on the right (westbound lanes of Clint Moore).
And finally a close up after the Sheriff was on scene.
Shadowood Adding Walgreens Outbuilding
Shadowood Plaza, on the northeast corner of Glades and 441, has blocked off a huge section of the parking lot on the Glades Road side. With a little research we determined that they’re building a new “outbuilding” in the parking lot, close to Glades in front of where the Walgreens is now, and the building will house a new and larger Walgreens.
Here’s a part of the site plan from Shadowood property manager Terranova. The future outbuilding is highlighted by a yellow rectangle around it at the bottom of the image.
And here’s a close-up showing that portion of the picture, along with the current Walgreens. The blue arrow points to the text showing that they intend to open this new Walgreens in 2015. The yellow arrows point to the square footage of the new and old spaces, showing that the new one will have an additional 3500 square feet. That’s a 27% increase in size.
It looks like the Shadowood parking lot will be getting a little crowded come 2015.
