High-End Homes in Stone Creek Ranch

Our real estate readers may remember our article on a special house in Boca West. For those looking in that high end of the market, there are some more opportunities nearby. Stone Creek Ranch is on the west side of Lyons Road north of Clint Moore, close to the Bridges, 7 Bridges, and Mizner Country Club developments. Many people look to this area when considering ranches for sale, but there is other property available in this market too.

There are a few lots remaining and at least one house on the market. The site plan map below gives a sense of what’s available.

The lots sell in the $1 million ball park. In addition, there’s a huge existing house that just came on the market at 16201 Quiet Vista Circle (lot 30).

The property appraiser has the house at nearly 14,000 square feet and shows the original 2005 sale price as $4.5 million. We have several pictures of the property. Not pictured is the full-size outdoor basketball court with a special floor that allows water to run off so it dries quickly after rain.
The previous owner was a Florida State fan and some of the decorating reflect Seminole colors, so Gator and Canes fans should budget for painting. The colors are rather bright so it’s going to take a lot of paint to cover it. Alternatively, peel and stick wallpaper will cover it well, hiding any color that’s underneath the paper. It also comes in a vast variety of colors and designs too, suitable for any decor. Plus, it’s easily changeable too so if new homeowners change their mind, it won’t be a bother removing it.
One of the most impressive spots is the backyard, which has a gorgeous view.

The house looks great from back there too, a wonderful space for outdoor entertaining:

There’s lots of space inside for entertaining as well:

And of course as you’d expect at this level, it has a wonderful kitchen:

There’s an office with a spiral staircase to a second floor with a balcony looking to the back:

The master suite has his and hers bathrooms and hers is pleasant:

And our last photo is an architectural feature that really impressed me when I saw it in person. There’s a hallway that runs parallel to the front of the house.

Stone Creek Ranch has enhanced security with its gate and a roving patrol as well. It seems completely unnecessary due to its low-crime location but it brings additional peace of mind to the residents.
The location is very convenient to Delray Marketplace and also to everything on Clint Moore and Yamato.

Home Invasion in The Oaks

robbery-oaks
A few readers reported an incident last night with a heavy police presence and a police helicopter around Clint Moore. A couple heard it was an attempted home invasion in either The Oaks or Long Lake Estates.
The CrimeMapping.com website shows a robbery in The Oaks was reported on Cadena Drive, which is north of Clint Moore and close to Lyons Road.
One reader sent us this picture of police on the scene:

We checked the court system and do not see any new cases that clearly fit with this incident. We also contacted PBSO Media Relations and they did not see this case in their system yet. It’s not clear if an arrest was made at all.
As one reader put it:

There was an attempted home invasion in the Oaks around 10 PM. The police are looking for the robber. A male wearing a grey shirt.

Considering the accuracy of the reader on the location and time, we’re guessing the rest of his report is accurate as well.

Accident Scene on Palmetto Park: Photos and Video

crumple1
A reader tipped us off to an accident earlier today on Palmetto Park Road at Lyons. This was on the westbound side and was blocking two lanes when we passed by a few minutes later.
We also have some video. First here’s how it looked approaching the scene coming from the east:

And this is how the vehicles looked up closer:

And here are a couple more pictures from the reader:

Traffic backed up a little on Palmetto Park but it wasn’t that bad.

Big Crowd at Olympic Heights for School District Forum

crowd2
An estimated 400 people showed up to the school district’s event at Olympic Heights High School on Lyons Road north of Glades. The meeting was for discussing the school board’s Resolution on Accountability. Slides from the presentation are at the bottom of this article.

The resolution has mysteriously disappeared from the school district website, and of course they ran out of English language copies of it. Plenty of Spanish language ones were available. However we were able to find a copy of it online at Diane Ravitch’s blog.
The resolution is lengthy but basically it seeks to limit the impact of testing on education. We give credit to the school district staff for keeping their presentation reasonably brief, and then allowing the audience members to speak.

Many of the audience commenters were teachers, though there were also students and parents. The group below spoke toward the end of the event.

An Olympic Heights junior, below, spoke early on.

And this 5th grader spoke well about the pressure of testing and the uncomfortable experience it has been for her.

There were other kids in the audience:

One of the teachers who spoke identified himself as the chair of West Boca High’s Language Arts Department, Noel Levin.

Generally the speakers read from prepared statements and were well received by the audience. The main complaints seemed to be about testing, curricula, and teacher pay. The “Common Core” buzzword came up repeatedly.

It seemed that a couple of things were missing. First, while the complaints were coherent, there did not seem to be a clear solution. Second, the resolution and much of the comments addressed federal and state issues beyond the power of the school board, but there was virtually no presence from state and federal officials.
There was one exception to that, as State Rep. Irving Slosberg took the microphone and gave a rousing speech encouraging people to vote out Rick Scott and the Republicans in Tallahassee and “change the management” in state government.

We spoke with Slosberg outside. We asked whether the problems people are complaining about (testing, curricula, common core, etc.) were brought about by both parties and he didn’t answer that directly. He focused on teacher pay, blaming Republicans for it being so low. We also asked about Charlie Crist’s role in the FCAT and Slosberg said that was in the past. He clearly did not like our questions and stuck to his partisan message. Regardless, we appreciate that he showed up and so did the audience.
A few other state and federal elected officials live close by but didn’t come. Early on we “tweeted” to Ted Deutch and Kevin Rader on Twitter but they did not respond.

Accident at Lyons and Clint Moore

lyons-clint-moore
A reader just reported to us that there’s an accident at Lyons and Clint Moore. From the photo above it looks like the collision was fairly minor and hopefully there are no serious injuries. Update: Additional reader photo added at bottom.
However, it does appear to be causing traffic problems at the intersection, per Google Maps:
lyons-clint-moore-traffic
We recommend avoiding the intersection for at least half an hour.
From the photo it looks like a Mercedes S Class met with a Lexus RX, and we think we see airbag deployment on the Lexus passenger side.
Update: Another reader sent us a shot from a different angle.
