Chamber Breakfast with Robert Watson
The West Boca Chamber had a vibrant breakfast meeting this morning at Boca Greens Country Club. The guest speaker was Robert Watson of Lynn University.
It was a crowd of about 60.

Boca Greens puts out a nice spread for breakfast, with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, French toast (which was particularly good this morning), fruit, yogurt, bagels and more. The most popular item was, of course, coffee.

Professor Watson spoke about President Lincoln. It turns out that today is Lincoln’s actual birthday.
He is an engaging speaker and you can get a hint of that from this photo:

He started by describing the recent Lincoln film by Spielberg as very accurate.
Little known fact: Even Lincoln visited a prostitute. It’s a great story and Watson has a seemingly endless supply of gems.
Watson’s latest book is Affairs of State: The Untold History of Presidential Love, Sex, and Scandal, 1789-1900. Amazon’s reviews look bad but the complaints are from people who have neither bought nor read the book, complaining about the price. It is expensive at about $47 for the hardcover and $29 for the Kindle edition. From the “Look Inside” feature, the beginning shows it to be well written with a very interesting topic. Watson might want to consider lowering the price a bit though, if he wants to sell books outside the university-textbook industrial complex.
