Unfortunate Inspections

Three West Boca restaurants had the worst inspections in this week’s report. A Chinese restaurant and a South American restaurant each had 22 violations, and a Mexican restaurant had 16. Two of them are on Glades Road, and one is on US-441.

We also have good news, with five restaurants getting near-perfect results.

Lucky Palace in West Boca Square was not so lucky this week. They also had a bad inspection in February with roaches. This time was better, but still bad.

This week’s inspection showed 22 violations including 6 high priority:

  • Dishmachine not sanitizing properly. Discontinue use of dishmachine for sanitizing and set up manual sanitization until dishmachine is repaired and sanitizing properly. Tested 2 time at 0 ppm.
  • Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. 60 lbs. of raw chicken, as per manager cold holding overnight in wic (45°F – Cold Holding); 10 lbs. of raw pork ribs as per manager cold holding overnight in wic (45°F – Cold Holding); 10 lbs. of raw chicken wings as per manager cold holding overnight in wic (45°F – Cold Holding); 12 lbs. of tofu as per manager cold holding overnight in wic (45°F – Cold Holding); 20 lbs. of cream cheese as per manager cold holding overnight in wic (45°F – Cold Holding)
  • Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food cooked/heated yesterday/on a previous day not cooled from 135 degrees Fahrenheit to 41 degrees Fahrenheit within a total of 6 hours. Food has been cooling overnight. 10 lbs. cooked pork as per manager cooling overnight in wic (47°F – Cooling); 10 lbs. cooked pork ribs as per manager cooling overnight in wic (47°F – Cooling); 30 lbs. of cooked chicken as per manager cooling overnight in wic (47°F – Cooling); 5 lbs. of cooked pork dumplings as per manager cooling overnight in wic (47°F – Cooling); 10 lbs. of cooked egg rolls as per manager cooling overnight in wic (47°F – Cooling); 18 qts. of cooked General tsao sauce as per manager cooling overnight in wic (47°F – Cooling) See stop sale.
  • Raw animal foods not properly separated from one another based upon minimum required cooking temperature in walk-in freezer – all products not commercially packaged. Raw chicken stored over raw lobster tails in WIF. Manager removed and stored properly. **Corrected On-Site**

  • Vacuum breaker missing at mop sink faucet or on fitting/splitter added to mop sink faucet.

Colombian restaurant Rancheritos in Somerset Shoppes also had 22 violations but only one was high priority.

Food-contact surfaces not sanitized after cleaning, before use. Do not use equipment/utensils not properly sanitized. – cook cleaning/preparing whole fin fish in three Compartment Sink when each Compartment is heavily soiled and has soiled dishware and utensils.

Casa Tequila on Glades near the Turnpike had 16 violations including a stop sale:

Stop Sale issued on potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food due to temperature abuse. In WALKIN COOLER, Green Salsa 47F, Picoodello Sauce 47F, Enchilada Sauce 47F, PintoBeans 46F- 47F, Salsa Pollo 47F, Salsa Bucco 47F, Salsa Verde 47F.

Good News

Five joints had very good inspections, though none were perfect. Chipotle in Westwinds of Boca (441 and Glades), along with Burger King and Papa Johns on Glades near the Turnpike, each had just one minor violation.

On Clint Moore near 441, Fit Foodz Cafe and the renamed 251 Tap Room (formerly Mozzarita Bar) each had 2 minor violations.

Four restaurants were in the pretty good category:

  • Boston Market in Shadowood (3 violations, 1 high priority)
  • Kekoa on Glades near the Turnpike (4, 1)
  • IHOP in Mission Bay (5, 1)
  • Villa Rosano at Clint Moore and 441 (6, 2)

There were several more in the middle. Brooklyn Water Bagel on Powerline had 15 violations with 2 high priority.

With 14 violations each, La Granja at Town Center and Sandalfoot’s Thick and Thin Pizza have done better in the past.

With 11 violations each we see Little Brazil on Glades near the Turnpike, Trattoria Nonna on SW 18th, and 3 Natives on Beracasa.
