Kosher Bagel Coming to Boca Grove

Another new place opening soon: Kosher Bagel & Catering is coming to the Shoppes at Boca Grove. It will be right next to Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza.
Boca Grove is often busy with Anthony’s, Bonefish Grill, and Bravo Academy. It’s in Central Boca on Powerline between Glades and Palmetto, and a somewhat common destination for West Boca residents.

Bistro Gastronomie Coming to Yamato

Update: Review of Bistro Gastronomie

20130924-194548.jpg
Today we noticed a new restaurant will be opening in Yamato Village Center. That’s the plaza on the north side of Yamato at Lake Ridge, between 441 and Lyons. Perhaps better known for Dori’s Market.

Looks like it will have French cuisine. When we find out more we will certainly update our readers.
Update: From Shuster Design Associates, it’s a “new upscale French bistro”. No one ever seems to open a downscale restaurant. Shuster says it:

will seat 150 people [with] extraordinary fine French cuisine by a leading five star chef with an impeccable reputation. The restaurant will be designed with elegance, including private banquette seating, a beautiful bar, fine woods, crystal chandeliers and French artwork.

From other sources we believe the chef is William Walden, formerly of the Goodstone Inn & Restaurant in Washington DC. We can’t verify his number of stars nor whether his reputation has ever been pecked.

Dunkin Donuts Fall Pumpkin Menu

20130924-150641.jpg
Dunkin Donuts invited West Boca News to a show and taste of their fall menu. While the event was in East Boca, there’s at least one DD in West Boca so we thought it was worth covering.
20130924-150906.jpg
We were presented with a variety of pumpkin flavored products, including bagels, munchkins, donuts, muffin and a pumpkin pie filled donut (everyone’s favorite – I heard someone say “mmm that’s good!”). I don’t think we tasted the bagel. Everything else was good.
20130924-151531.jpg
Then there was the pumpkin coolatta, an iced drink. We also tried an iced latte. I’m not a coffee drinker and the coffee taste was too strong for me. Others liked it.
20130924-151050.jpg
We also got to sample new sandwiches including roast beef on pretzel roll, corned beef hash, egg and cheese on an English muffin, and Angus beef on Texas toast. The Angus was the best and the pretzel roll was also pretty good. They do breads well. The corned beef one seemed a little odd. Not bad, just odd.

Sybarite Pig – For Foodies and Beer Connoisseurs

We noticed the Sybarite Pig some time ago and finally got here for lunch. It’s in Shadowood Plaza on the northeast corner of Glades and 441. They’ve been open for about 9 months and serving lunch for 4 months.

20130913-125703.jpg
The interior is dominated by a large rectangular bar. There are also five tables inside with a couple smaller ones outside.

20130913-131702.jpg
The food menu could best be described as eclectic. It is heavy on red meat, especially sausages, with beef, pork, lamb and duck. There’s no routine items. If you’re looking for a simple cheeseburger, fries and a Bud or a Coke, the Sybarite Pig may not be for you. Not much here for vegetarians either. If you’re a meat-eating foodie and you appreciate craft beers then you will be in hog heaven.
My companion had the Korean Short Ribs with a Mac and cheese side. The ribs were outstanding with rich flavor.

20130913-134618.jpg
I had the Merguez Sausage with a kim chi side. This was a pleasant sacrifice from my dietary effort to avoid red meat, for journalistic integrity. The sausage, made of lamb, was pretty good though I wouldn’t go so far as great. The “pretzel” roll it was served on did not seem like a pretzel. Not bad but not what we expected. The kim chi was excellent, and very spicy.

20130913-134646.jpg
We decided to try the side summer salad as well, which included mixed greens, Gorgonzola cheese and pecans. The dressing might have been a touch heavy on vinegar but I still liked it.

20130913-134857.jpg
For beverages companion had a “Mexican Sprite”, made with sugar rather than corn syrup. It really did taste better than regular Sprite.
I tried a Cigar City Stiftung, served “German style” with some kind of syrup to soften the sour edge (as it was explained). It was very good.

20130913-135542.jpg
The drinks menu is extensive with both beer and wine. The draught beers are displayed on a couple monitors. The Schmaltz from Clifton Park (near my hometown) caught my eye.

20130913-135852.jpg
Overall we liked it and we will be back.
The food menu is below.
