Shoplifting and More at the Westwinds Publix

A reader tipped us off to an incident last night at Publix in the Westwinds plaza (Glades and 441). He noticed a couple of deputy vehicles as well as a paddy wagon:

We looked into it and found that a shoplifting incident was reported by PBSO on CrimeMapping.com:

We also found an arrest in the blotter that seems to fit with this incident, though we can’t say for sure.

Mr. Paul Pelchat was arrested last night and the time of booking (shortly before 10 pm) is reasonably close to the time that an arrest from a 6 pm incident would get to booking on Gun Club Road in West Palm Beach. Mr. Pelchat faces several charges including petit theft from a merchant, marijuana and trespassing:

Looking at his history in the court system we see a string of 18 mostly minor offenses and misdemeanors dating back to 2009, averaging roughly 3 per year. That doesn’t count the arrests he’s had for failing to appear. We can only see back one year and we see two of those. We also see a couple of minor incidents in Broward.
The latest blotter entry lists his address as 9966 Glades Road, which is not any building we can identify. It may refer to a spot just east of 441 where we often see vagrants gathering. Other arrests for Mr. Pelchat list his address as “at large.”

Armadillo Cafe Coming to West Boca

The former Red Lantern Chinese restaurant closed quietly several months ago. In its place we’ve learned Armadillo Cafe is coming soon to Piccadilly Square.
Piccadilly Square is on the north side of Glades Road just west of the Turnpike and the north end of Boca Rio Road.

We met with chef Kevin McCarthy and the plaza owners. They’re very excited. McCarthy previously ran the Armadillo Cafe in Davie, as well as Armadillo Beach in Dania Beach. They’re already hearing from past customers eager to visit the new place.
We saw a copy of the old menu from Armadillo Beach. Judging by that and our conversation we expect entree prices to start near or over $20 and possibly reach into $40 territory. Look for a southwest style with premium ingredients.
The plaza is also home to our long-time sponsor, International Jeweler’s Exchange.

We don’t have a definite date yet but it may open in as little as two weeks. Get your taste buds ready!
More news will come soon from Piccadilly Square, but they weren’t ready to go into great detail on that yet.

New Walgreens Photos

West Boca photographer Johnnie Butters sent us these photos of the new Walgreens set to open soon in Shadowood Plaza on the north side of Glades just east of 441. Above is the front, facing Glades.
Next is the east side of the building, showing where the drive-thru lane will be:

And last is the west side of the building, showing the current Walgreens in the background:

Butters thinks it looks ready to open, but we don’t know any official open date yet. We’ll see if we can find out and keep our readers informed.

Another Accident at Glades and Cain

A few readers contacted us last night about an accident at the intersection of Glades and Cain. And a couple sent us pictures. Below are our enhanced versions of those images.
We do not have any further details on the accident our any injuries, though one reader pointed out that numerous Fire Rescue units were called to the scene.

Ace's Barber Opening in Boca Lyons Plaza

We’ve been alerted to a new barber shop opening in Boca Lyons Plaza. Ace’s Barber Co. will be in the section facing Glades Road, near Steve’s Wood Fired Pizza, Clouds of Vapor, and Carvel.
Boca Lyons Plaza is on the southwest corner of Glades and Lyons:

Below are some pictures of the place.

We’re told they’re hoping to take “the barbershop experience to a new level.”
